The Alvie Football Netball Club, proudly known as the Swans, is one of the Colac & District Football Netball League’s (CDFNL) most successful and historically rich clubs. Based in the small township of Alvie, just 12 kilometres northwest of Colac, the club has been at the heart of its community for over a century.
The Swans were officially established in 1922, originally competing in the Colac Junior Association. Over the following decades, the football landscape evolved with numerous league restructures, and in 1937, Alvie joined the newly formed Colac & District Football League—a competition it has remained loyal to ever since. Alvie is the only foundation club still competing in the CDFNL, making it a pillar of the league’s proud history.
Alvie’s football teams have consistently been among the strongest in the league, amassing an impressive 13 senior premierships over the decades. These include dominant eras in the 1960s and 1970s and more recent triumphs in 2000 and 2023. The full list of premiership years is:
1950, 1954, 1959, 1962, 1965, 1966, 1967, 1969, 1970, 1975, 1977, 2000, 2023
Their most recent premiership in 2023 saw Alvie defeat Colac Imperials in a commanding grand final performance, reinforcing their reputation as a powerhouse club.
Success at Alvie extends beyond the football field. The club’s netball program, particularly its A Grade team, has also forged a dominant legacy. Alvie has won 12 A Grade netball premierships, showcasing its strength and consistency across generations. These came in the years:
1985, 1986, 1987, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 2006, 2019, 2022, 2024
The club’s commitment to developing talent and fostering competitive netball has been vital to its all-round sporting success.
The Alvie Recreation Reserve is home to the Swans, a ground known for its picturesque rural backdrop and passionate supporter base. The club wears its iconic red and white colours with pride, with players donning guernseys featuring a traditional white “V” on a red background.
