The Irrewarra-Beeac Football Netball Club, proudly known as the Bombers, is a shining example of what can be achieved through unity, community focus, and a love for local sport. Formed in 1986 through the merger of two neighbouring clubs—Irrewarra and Beeac—the club has gone on to become one of the most respected and family-oriented clubs in the Colac & District Football Netball League (CDFNL).

🛠️ A Merger Built on Common Ground

By the mid-1980s, both the Irrewarra Football Club and the Beeac Football Club were struggling to maintain numbers—both on the field and off it. Player shortages, declining membership, and difficulty filling committees prompted action. With just 10 kilometres separating the two towns, merging was not only logical—it was essential.

The result was the formation of the Irrewarra-Beeac Football Netball Club in 1986, which adopted the Irrewarra Recreation Reserve as its home ground and the red and black Bomber colours, symbolising strength and a new era of unity.

🏉 Football Heritage and Success

Both foundation clubs brought rich footballing history into the merger:

  • Beeac Football Club won 4 Senior Football Premierships between 1910 and 1956.
  • Irrewarra Football Club claimed 5 Senior Premierships between 1927 and 1972.

Since the merger, Irrewarra-Beeac has forged its own proud legacy, securing three Senior Football Premierships in 2008, 2009, and 2010, a golden era in the club’s modern history.

The club’s junior football program has also been a consistent force, producing strong talent and winning 7 Junior Football Premierships, reflecting a long-term commitment to player development.

🏐 Netball Dominance

The Irrewarra-Beeac Netball Program has been one of the most successful in the CDFNL:

  • Between 1997 and 2011, the A Grade team won an incredible 12 Premierships in just 15 years—one of the most dominant runs in league history.
  • Across Under 13s through to B Grade, the club has added another 13 Netball Premierships, cementing its status as a true netball powerhouse.

Many of these premiership players have been with the club their entire careers, from junior to senior levels, and continue to contribute today as coaches, mentors, volunteers, or proud parents watching the next generation take to the court.

🏅 Life Members

The rich history of the club is also reflected in its life membership honours:

  • Beeac contributed 11 Life Members
  • Irrewarra added 10 Life Members
  • Since 1986, Irrewarra-Beeac has inducted a further 39 Life Members, bringing the total to 60 respected club contributors.

These life members represent decades of loyalty, effort, and community service that underpin everything the club stands for today.

👥 Today and Beyond

Today, the Irrewarra-Beeac Football Netball Club is more than just a sporting club—it is a strong, family-focused community organisation that prides itself on:

  • Developing and supporting players to reach their full potential
  • Creating a safe, welcoming, and inclusive environment for people of all ages
  • Preserving the proud histories of Irrewarra and Beeac while building a bold future

Recent years have seen the club continue to improve its facilities and focus on sustainability—particularly throughout the COVID-affected seasons of 2020 and 2021, where the club doubled down on its commitment to unity and resilience.

With a strong junior base, a loyal supporter group, and passionate volunteers and committee members, Irrewarra-Beeac is poised to thrive into the future, both on the field and in the broader Otway Plains community.
