The Western Eagles Football Netball Club, affectionately known as the Eagles, is a proud and community-driven member of the Colac & District Football Netball League (CDFNL). Based at the Irrewillipe Recreation Reserve, the club has become a vital sporting and social hub for the Irrewillipe and surrounding districts since its formation in 1996.
The Western Eagles were formed in 1996 following the merger of two historic country clubs: the Pirron Yallock Football Netball Club and the Irrewillipe Football Netball Club. The merger was a strategic move driven by changing demographics and the need to ensure the long-term viability of both football and netball in the region.
United under a new banner, the Western Eagles took flight—adopting the eagle as their mascot to symbolize strength, unity, and ambition.
The club’s home is the Irrewillipe Recreation Reserve, fondly referred to by members and supporters as “The Nest.” This ground is more than just a playing surface; it’s a gathering place for families, volunteers, and the wider community.
The Western Eagles field two senior football teams (Seniors and Reserves) and two junior football sides, providing a full pathway for player development and participation.
The club has reached finals on several occasions—particularly in its early years—with appearances in 1998, 1999, 2001, and 2004. Despite fluctuations in on-field performance, the club’s commitment to nurturing local talent and providing a positive football experience has never wavered.
The Western Eagles netball program continues to go from strength to strength, with three senior netball teams and three junior netball teams currently competing in the CDFNL.
The club’s proud netball history includes an A Grade premiership victory in 1995, prior to the official merger, showcasing a tradition of excellence that remains today.
The Western Eagles are known as a family-oriented club, providing a safe, friendly, and healthy environment for people of all ages to enjoy sport and community life. The club actively supports local businesses and receives invaluable support through sponsorships from across the region.
The emphasis on inclusivity, volunteerism, and community pride makes the Western Eagles more than just a sports club—it’s a home for many.
Whether it’s on the field, on the court, or off it, the Western Eagles Football Netball Club continues to play a vital role in fostering local talent, supporting regional sport, and bringing the community together.
